Segway riders in Hart Plaza with Dodge Fountain and buildings in background

Strait to the Hart

Did you know Hart Plaza, our main civic plaza where we hold music and cultural festivals, was named for the sitting US Senator (Michigan) Phillip Hart who died during the plaza’s construction?

We often get our feet wet, so to speak, on the car-less Dequindre Cut greenway and this Segway tour route is no different. From our home in Eastern Market, we head south to the RiverWalk (where we’ll see Canada even further south!) We’ll glide through Milliken State Park & Marina, Cullen Plaza and GM Plaza. Hart Plaza is closed during festivals but we’ll loop around as best we can. We’ll see the Fist of Joe Louis and the Spirit of Detroit across Jefferson and we’ll get up close to Mariner’s church (made famous by Gordon Lightfoot), traverse the international border crossing and check out some of old Rivertown before zipping up the Cut.

This is a shorter route that doesn’t cross any major streets.
